IMPROVE PERFORMANCE MOBILITY AND RECOVERY
Sports yoga helps improve flexibility, mobility and strength while reducing the risk of injury.
It supports performance, balance and recovery through functional movement, breathwork and targeted stretching.
I hold a specialist qualification in Sports Yoga, held by only a small number of teachers, and was trained by Sarah Ramsden, former yoga teacher for Manchester United.
Why Is Sports Yoga Different
Sports yoga combines postures with sports-specific stretches to target key muscle groups in different activities. Sessions are designed for pre- or post-training, focusing on recovery, improving mobility, injury prevention, and enhancing performance. Routines can be adapted to fit any schedule and last anywhere from 20 minutes up to an hour, making them an easy and practical addition to any training plan.
Traditional yoga often emphasises relaxation and meditation, and classes are usually 1–1.5 hours long.
Who Is It For
Sportspeople, whether you're preparing for the London Marathon, tackling your first sportive, or training for an Ironman. Group sessions or one-to-one classes can be booked to suit your training needs.
Benefits of Sports Yoga
In Sports Yoga, we aim to develop and rebalance three key areas: stability, strength, and flexibility. This will enable:
Improve movement patterns
Skeletal and Muscle balance and alignment
Improved stride length in appropriate sports
Reduced injury and improved recovery times from injury
Some injuries in sports are unavoidable. The intention behind sports yoga is primarily to help reduce the effects of chronic injury and improve recovery.
We follow a similar structure or order to any exercise session, generally along the following lines:
Warm up the body
Strength and Stability exercises
Gliding and Flexibility exercises
A short cooldown/relaxation to finish
